Director of Operations
Meet Tina Manibusan
Tina has been in insurance for over 20 years, serving as an account manager in both personal lines and commercial lines before transitioning into her current role as director of operations.
She grew up in the PNW and Hawaii, raised her three children in Olympia, and has one grandson nicknamed Chunk. She is a plant enthusiast, enjoys interior design, DIY and is known to take the Edmonds/Kingston ferry to eat at Chestnut Cottage and shop at Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles, or drive to a bakery in Sultan, WA, or Cle Elum, WA just for a donut.
What better way to get to know our agents than learning some fun facts! So, we asked them all the same four questions. Here are Tina’s answers:
What do you like most about Empire?
Working with Ryan over the last 6 years has been an adventure; his optimism & sense of humor makes the rollercoaster days bearable. It’s refreshing! My day is never the same & I get to work with good people; policyholders, agents, and carriers.
Best vacation you’ve been to?
I haven’t taken many vacations, but I think I’ve experienced a few things most won’t. Summer 2017, Robert & I took the ferry from Bellingham, WA to Juneau, AK. Earlier in March, we hopped on an Amtrak train for a cross-country trek – Washington to West Virginia. Both last minute adventures tested my skills on “how much could truly be stuffed into a backpack?” The scenery to Alaska can’t be topped, but the tales I could tell from being on a train cross country are priceless.
Top three life highlights?
(I don’t have life highlights because it’ll make most people cry hearing about them, so I’ll talk about my kids & grandson.)
My 3 kids are in their late 20’s now. They respect their elders, have hearts of gold & still call for coffee money. During the long Covid lockdown, they told me I needed a Nintendo Switch & Animal Crossing New Horizons. My virtual self got to fly to their islands to celebrate holidays & birthdays; eat cake, light off fireworks & take pictures with them. We’d have shooting star parties and go shopping at Able Sisters. IYKYK. Yes, we have social media and can facetime, but this game brought keeping in touch to a whole new level!
I have a grandson I call CHUNK. Braydon is almost 4 years old & is full of smiles, giggles and curiosity. Luckily, I love watching animated movies and being silly. Keeping up with him is tiring, but I’d do anything for that kid!
What is the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Jobs have been quite boring—hence insurance. My first job was working at A&W Restaurant; back when everything was paid with cash, and you had to count back the change because it was the old registers. I wore the whole brown restaurant uniform, including hair pinned up and my hat. I had long curly thick hair back then. The shirts were the short sleeve white with brown and orange stripes. So attractive! Everyone went by their first names, and there were no numbers given at the time of order. You had to remember who they were, where they decided to sit and bring their order to them. It was also the A&W that had the outdoor ordering, so they could dine in their cars. WA isn’t very pleasant to have that ordering. The intercom system was old fashion push button.
Favorite travel spot?
My idea of favorite travel spot is anywhere I can eat good food! Back in the day, I would jump in the car and drive hours to try a new place I saw on TV or heard from a friend, even if it meant a six-hour drive down the coast to Oregon.
Hard to choose—plain cheesecake, apple fritter, and chicken parmesan, I suppose, are my favorites.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Does The Hulk have an actual superpower? I’d want to have whatever superpower he has. Super strength as The Hulk and smarts as Bruce Banner. I don’t think The Hulk gets torn muscles lifting a couch to vacuum. Or, it would be to have super-speed like The Flash; get places quickly without too much effort? How many steps would my FitBit register if I had that superpower?
